"Christians raise the sacrament of Eucharist and the sacrament of Eucharist raises them and no one can survive without the Eucharist." (Martyrs of Carthage Sayings)

The sacrament of the Eucharist as instituted by Jesus himself the night before he gave himself on the cross is at the centre of the Orthodox Church dogma and worship. St Paul testifies to this in 1 Corinthians 11:23-27 “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”

The Divine Liturgy is the greatest act that takes place in our life. It is the presence of the Eternal among us, before whom angels bow and demons tremble before His name. Attending Mass is not merely standing in the Church, but it is a communion with angels, saints and the whole congregation in the presence of The Lord Jesus. It is a communion in His sacrifice and in the power and triumph of His Resurrection. In other words, not all those who attend the Mass share in it. Rather, it is those who share with the Lord his love, his death and his resurrection in unity with the church as one heart.
