Description
Over two-thousand years ago, the angels declared, ‘Christ is Risen!’ And the whole world changed. But if it was two-thousand years ago, how can we really know it happened? Couldn’t it just have been a legend passed on down for generations, maybe because it gave people comfort? If you’ve ever wondered this, just be sure you’re not alone, and many, many people before you have asked the same question. In fact, it’s a good thing you’re willing to ask these questions, because it means you care about the answers, you care about what you have based your faith on.
In this book, the first in a series on apologetics, you will find not only the answers to how you can be sure of Christ’s Resurrection, as researched by so many people before you, but also we hope to open your eyes to the approach to apologetics, the way we answer these often challenging questions about our faith. A healthy, honest scepticism has its place within faith—in fact, asking such questions and searching sincerely for answers can make your faith even stronger than it would be if you hadn’t. So never be afraid to look deeper.
1 Corinthians 15:14

Timothy Meleka –
“Did Jesus Rise From the Dead?” by Bethany Kaldas is a great book on Jesus’ existence, the evidence of His Resurrection, and the best ways to answer tough apologetics questions. The book is aimed at teens, but is also suitable for anyone wondering about the evidence for and how to prove that Jesus was real and did rise from the dead. The book’s thesis is that the Resurrection story is most compatible with three essential criteria. These criteria are facts from the Gospels which are also undeniable historically. Using these three easy-to-remember Keys, as they are conveniently called, the book thoroughly tests and examines the main hypotheses opposing the Resurrection story, exposing the major drawbacks, and finally evaluating the plausibility of each.
I liked that the author doesn’t force belief in the Resurrection; rather she leaves the decision open to the reader, and says that all she wants is to affirm that the Resurrection is very well supported by evidence, provide supporting views from notable scholars, and prepare the reader to be able to “give a defense to everyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). She makes the important point that the truth of the Resurrection is what makes our faith meaningful, and that without it Christianity offers no hope. This isn’t to say that it leaves readers fearful and full of doubt. For me, all the evidence and detailed criticism of alternative theories made me even more sure that Jesus’ Resurrection is true.
Overall, “Did Jesus Rise From the Dead?” was a fantastic answer to a question I had never really asked myself. Incorporating apologetic methodology with simple explanations, topped off with a refreshing and humourous writing style, this book should be a go-to for anyone interested in the big questions of apologetics and is a significant step in preparing the next generation of church leaders with a solid foundation of knowledge about the historical Jesus and His Resurrection. Thankyou Bethany for writing this incredible book, and thankyou Abouna Anthony for recommending this!
