Patrology – Fr Tadros Malaty | Part 5

In Part 5 of this lecture, Fr Yaoub Malaty answers questions concerning the congregation.

One question that arose was regarding the difference between Catholicism and Orthodoxy in terms of the role of our Pope and Bishops. In Orthodox Christianity, we look at the Bishop as the symbol of Christ, and the community as the symbol of the Bride of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fr Tadros concludes that no single entity is considered as the Bishop (representative) of the whole world. This is contrary to Catholic belief who perceive the successors of St Peter as the representatives of the whole congregation.
